Upcoming Events in
Towanda
American Legion
The Towanda American Legion will have a
breakfast on Sunday, February 5th from 7:30 - 11. Breakfast includes
eggs, egg casserole, sausage, bacon, hash browns, pancakes, fresh fruit,
biscuits and gravy, juice, milk and coffee for $8.
There will be a fish dinner on Friday,
February 24th from 5-7. Dinner includes fish, a gratin potatoes,
coleslaw, roll, dessert and drink for $8. Everyone is welcome to the
dinner. Carry outs are available. We continue to collect items
for our troops overseas. Thank you for supporting the Legion and our
troops.
Towanda 4-H
The Towanda 4-H will meet on Tuesday,
February 7th. We will have a speaker, Deputy Sarah Bay, who will
talk about Internet Safety. Talks will be given by Sophie Dorgan,
Anna Myrvold, Ariaana Schelton and Kenzi Kraft. Demonstrations will
be by Sarah & Megan Schultz. Recreation will be Sophie Dorgan and
refreshments will be provided by Clements and Salegnas.

The Towanda 4-H is open to boys and
girls from ages 8 to 19 by September 1st. And Clover Buds are for

Towanda Seniors
The Towanda Senior Group will meet at 12
noon on February 8th at the Community Building for a Pizza Lunch and
members and any visitors are asked to bring side dishes and dessert and
their own table service. Drinks will be provided. The
calendars are here and will be passed out to the group. If you have

First Baptist Church
Come spend the evening with your friends
at First Baptist Church of Towanda for the second Family Movie Night of
2012. Friday, February 10th at 6pm we will be showing "Courageous".
Bring the family for popcorn and refreshments and a positive, powerful,
heroic, entertaining and life-changing movie from the makers of
"Fireproof". All are welcome, admission is free.
First Baptist Church
Join the First Baptist Church for the
first Family Movie Night of 2012. The church will be showing "Mr.
Popper's Penguins", Friday, January 13th at 6pm. Popcorn and
refreshments are provided. All are welcome to enjoy an evening with
the family with a fun family flick.
Boy Scouts
Reminder: The 56th Annual Pancake
and Sausage Breakfast will be Saturday, February 11th at the Towanda Grade
School. It's not too late to place an advance meat order. Call

Girl Scouts
The annual Towanda Girl Scout Bake Sale
will again be held during the Boy Scout Pancake and Sausage Breakfast on
February 11th from 8am to noon. Individually wrapped baked donations
will be accepted Friday, February 10th in the Village Clerk's office fro
9am - 12pm or in the Towanda School gym from 3:15 - 4:15pm. Thank you for
supporting your local Girl Scouts!
HCE
The Towanda HCE Unit will meet on
Monday, February 13th, 7pm at the Towanda Community Building.
Hostesses are Connie Carstens and Jeanie Wager. Joyce Theobald will
be giving the lesson on "Home Energy Savings, Create a Plan that works".
The Fact Find is The many Uses for Coffee Filters. Visitors are

Lions Club
The Towanda Lions Club will be having
their annual Ham and Bean dinner on March 12, 2012, at the Community
Building from 4:30 - 7pm. Cost of dinner is $6 per person.
Menu consists of Ham and Beans, Corn Bread, coffee and juice, condiments,
dessert- pie or cake, hot dogs and chips for kids. Takeout orders
are accommodated. Ham and Bean dinner tickets are $6 at the door or
$5 in advance. Hot dogs are $3 dollars for children 12 and under, $6
dollars for adults. Come out and enjoy a good meal and help the
Lions support their vision programs. Mission Statement: To create
and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian
needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and
international cooperation. Meet 2nd Thursday of each month @ 6:30 at
the Towanda Community Building. President: Dennis Rollins,
Secretary: Bob Hancock, Treasurer: Dennis Ambuehl.
Area Garage Sales
It isn't too early to begin planning for
the annual sprig garage sales. This year's dates are May 3-6
(Thursday-Sunday) ~ held in conjunction with the Route 66 Red Carpet
Corridor Festival (May 5-6). To share in the advertising cost and be
included on the list, information about items for sale and the time and
day of your sale is requested by Wednesday, April 28th to
rgbriggs@frontiernet.net (728-2187).
Community Coffee
Come on up to the
Community Building on the 1st and 3rd Monday's of each month for coffee,
donuts and fellowship. Everyone is welcome, 8-10 am.
Community Service Organization
The Towanda CSO depends on volunteers
like you when donations are needed for funeral meals. Please contact
Sharon Arteman at 728-2169 to have your name added to a contact list that
will be notified when food donations or help is needed.
Garbage
A new ban prohibits the
landfill disposal of many electronic items from both residential and
business/commercial sources. Items included in this ban: tvs,
monitors, printers, computers, DVD players. Please contact Kelly at
Casali & Son's Disposal if you have any questions - (309)242-9001.
Show Bus
Show Bus provides public
transportation to residents of Towanda. The bus stops in Towanda on
Monday/Wednesday/Friday at 10:00 am. Please contact Show Bus at
1-800-525-2454 for more information. Door-to-door services is
available.
Towanda Area Historical Society
Meetings,
which are open to the public (no membership fee), are held at the
Community Building on the 4th Tuesday of the month, at 7pm. Organized in
2005, TAHS has collected numerous artifacts, developed a website
http://www.towandahistory.org/
hosted several 'open houses' to give folks a glimpse of our past, and
solicited funds to finance the publication of a history book. These
efforts are ongoing! If work on any of these projects interests you,

Towanda Elementary School
The Towanda PTO will once
again hold a Basket Raffle during the Boy Scouts Pancake and Sausage
Breakfast on Saturday, February 11th. Please stop by the bym stage
to see the six baskets and to purchase raffle tickets. The six
baskets are: #1 - Kindle Fire with accessories, #2 - American Girl Doll of
the Year McKenna with handmade doll outfits, #3 - Museum of Science and
Industry Trip with 2 sets of family 4-pack passes to the museum, VISA gift
card, and script gas card, #4 - Family Fun with a 32" TV and a DVD Player,
children's movies, and several dining gift certificates/coupons and
activity passes, #5 - Lego Games with six sets of Lego board games, and #6
- Cars 2 Basket full of fun Cars 2 memorabilia. Tickets will be sold
from 8am until 2pm for #1 each or 6 tickets for $5. Please stop by

Towanda Library
Monday Night Knitting Group:
5:30 to 6:30 beginning January 30th
Several people have expressed an
interest in a Monday Night Knitting/Handicraft Group at the library.
Whether you are an expert knitter, who is willing to share your
knowledge, or a beginner, who wants to learn more -- we invite you to
be part of the group. The library has a large selection of knitting,
felting, and crocheting books for you. We always see a surge in demand
for these books via interlibrary loan during the winter months. Go to

Village News
The Towanda Village Board
approved the purchase and installation of a generator at the Towanda
Community Building. The new generator will ensure that power is
available when the building is used as a storm shelter or in other
emergency situation.
